Travel story
Cold sea breeze, quiet vineyards, heated sandy horizons.
In a landscape free from the hustle and bustle, I touched it by car, on foot, with my own feet.
Quietly, deeply, the journey seeps in.
ー
From the Cape Peninsula to the Wine Lands, and to the land of Namib, traversing Southern Africa from south to north.
The route, which includes natural landscapes, wildlife, history, and culture, also includes free action days, allowing for a relaxed pace.
At the end of the journey, a quiet and powerful time awaits on the land of the Namib Desert.
Signature points
Spectacular views of the Cape Peninsula and the paradise of penguins
Chapman's Peak Drive, Cape Point Lighthouse, and the penguin colony at Boulders Beach, all condensed into the natural landscapes characteristic of South Africa. Enjoy "sea, mountains, and animals" in one day.
A journey through the 'flavors' of Southern Africa, a story of wine and terroir
A day exploring wineries in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, while also touching on the unique history and architecture of the Cape region. Includes tastings at three locations.
Walking through the heart of the Namib Desert, Sossusvlei and Deadvlei
Walk among countless black dead trees standing in the dry lake bed, overlooking one of the largest red sand dune fields in the world. An unforgettable experience in a space that can be said to represent the original landscape of the Earth.

Exit Windhoek south to Rehoboth which is home to the Baster community of Namibia. From here, there are 2 options to choose from. Speak to your guide about your preferences.
-
Option 1: Spreegshoogte Pass
Very steep and strikingly beautiful. Shrub savannah changes to desert savannah, granite hills and outcrops to the flat endless vistas of the Namib Desert. The Spreetshoogte Pass is a showpiece of the desert where, from the viewpoint, one can see endless miles down the mountain looking out over the wide-open spaces. It's a slow drive down the winding pass to the desert floor.

-
Option 2: Bullsport
Less winding roads and more direct. This route skips Solitaire entirely.
In Solitaire, you can stop at the fuel station, refuel and buy some refreshments. The bakery is decent if you're hungry. From here, it's about an hour drive south to your lodge, not far from the Sossusvlei gateway at Sesriem. Welcome to the Namib Desert!

Sightseeing Sossusvlei area
After entering the park, drive west with your guide to the beautiful Sossusvlei area where most of the morning will be spent on dune climbing, photography and visiting the amazing Dead Pan.
Midday heat can be intense so be sure to spend it in the shade. On your way back from Sossusvlei, stop by at Dune 45 which is famous for simply being pretty. The Sesriem Canyon is also a recommended visit although you might want to save that for later when it’s cooler. Your entry into the park is valid all day so come and go as you please.
-
Expert Tips
If you’re heading to Swakopmund on the coast and wish to take the Welwitschia Plains and Moon Landscape route, you'll need a park permit. This inexpensive permit can be purchased at the Sesriem office, when entering the Namib Naukluft Park to Sossusvlei.
