    This will be your first chance to catch a glimpse of all that Edinburgh has to offer.
    Edinburgh is Scotland's capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a city that combines history, culture and stunning landscape. It has a medieval Old Town and an elegant Georgian New Town with gardens and neoclassical buildings.

    The city’s backdrop of Arthur’s Seat, the Pentland Hills, and Edinburgh’s Waterfront makes the city a remarkable place to explore.

    A good starting place is the Royal Mile in the heart of Edinburgh, running through the heart of the Old Town, connecting the two royal residences, Edinburgh Castle, with the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Pop into the boutique shop selling Scottish goods, cashmere, whisky and crafts along the way, or to one of the cafes or eateries.


    Look, and listen, out for local 'Pipers' (bagpipe players) near Edinburgh Castle, particularly at Castlehill and on the Royal Mile near the High Court and The Mound. You might also find them playing near the Scott Monument on Princes Street.

    At the bottom of The Royal Mile is Holyrood Park, a 640-acre Royal Park adjacent to Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland. Holyrood Park was a royal pleasure ground for nearly 1,000 years and still enjoys a close relationship with the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The park was enclosed in the 1500s, under royal direction, and today it is an oasis of calm as a retreat from the busy city.

    You may choose to wander through Stockbridge's charming cafes and independent shops. Bruntsfield and Morningside are affluent neighbourhoods with some of the best shopping and eateries in Edinburgh.

    There are also many amazing museums and galleries to visit in Edinburgh, and many of them offer free entry.

    A popular choice is the National Museum of Scotland, which showcases a wide range of exhibits on Scottish history and culture.

    Another great choice is the Scottish National Gallery, where you can admire a fantastic collection of artworks from various periods.

    The Scottish National Portrait Gallery gives a fascinating overview of Scotland's past and present through a wealth of imagery encompassing painting, photography, sculpture and film.

    Look, and listen, out for local 'Pipers' (bagpipe players) near Edinburgh Castle, particularly at Castlehill and on the Royal Mile near the High Court and The Mound. You might also find them playing near the Scott Monument on Princes Street.

    At the bottom of The Royal Mile is Holyrood Park, a 640-acre Royal Park adjacent to Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland. Holyrood Park was a royal pleasure ground for nearly 1,000 years and still enjoys a close relationship with the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The park was enclosed in the 1500s, under royal direction, and today it is an oasis of calm as a retreat from the busy city.
