Travel story
Landing on a quiet morning in the capital, the journey soon fades into deep green.
In the mist-shrouded forests of San Gerardo de Dota, footsteps search for the jade quetzal in the cold early morning air.
Crossing the highland páramo and descending the valley that opens between clouds and mountains, the blue of the Pacific eventually unfolds—the place where the legends of Drake Bay melt into the wind. Walk the dense rainforest of the Osa Peninsula, meet dolphins and sea turtles in the clear waters around Caña Island, and navigate the mangrove mazes by boat. Lying on the white sands of Manuel Antonio, you can hear the whispers of sloths and monkeys slipping through the trees. The aroma of coffee, the scent of damp earth, the rhythm of the waves—everything unites to awaken the senses in a poetic journey through Costa Rica's nature and history.
Signature points
Quetzal watching in the cloud-covered highlands
An awe-inspiring early morning experience meeting quetzals and vividly colored birds. Enjoy walks in mist-shrouded San Gerardo and grand mountain scenery while following a rich ecosystem.
Underwater world of Cayo Island and the Corcovado rainforest
Encounter colorful marine life while snorkeling or diving at Cayo Island. Encounters with dolphins and sea turtles are also possible. Additionally, explore Corcovado National Park—one of the world's most biodiverse areas—with local guides to observe wildlife such as tapirs and sloths.
Climax at Manuel Antonio!
In Manuel Antonio National Park, a roughly 2.5-hour trek offers opportunities to observe sloths and monkeys. The itinerary also allows for leisurely enjoyment of the park's beautiful beach scenery.

Quetzal Quest
First thing in the morning you will be going for a search for the spectacular, and one of the most beautiful birds in the Americas, the Quetzal. The morning begins early. You will meet your guide for a coffee before the hike begins at 6am. Since San Gerardo de Dota is home to a large population of this bird your guide will bring you along to try to spot them. It's a magical experience to see one of the male Quetzal with their metallic green plumage and steamer-like long feathers.
You will be back to the lodge to enjoy breakfast.
After breakfast you will continue south and leave the lush, misty cloud forests of Dota behind. You'll ascend into the subalpine paramo, where you'll be treated to sweeping views of rugged peaks and alpine meadows. Next, you'll descend into the lush, verdant rainforests of the lowlands and pass through the mangrove swamps of Sierpe before finally reaching the Pacific coastline. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to take in the stunning vistas and enjoy the beauty of each unique ecosystem.
Finally, you will reach your next destination in Costa Rica, Drake Bay.
The legend tells that the bay was discovered by Sir Francis Drake during his journeys around the world in the 16th century, and that somewhere in this bay he hid his treasures. Even though one might not find gold and diamonds here, the area is truly home to some of Costa Rica's natural treasures.
Drake Bay is part of Osa and Corcovado National Park, and is the true dream destination for adventurers and nature explorers. The area was called the most Biological Diverse Region of Earth by National Geographic! Here you can hike through the deep and verdant jungle spotting birds and animals. Drift away on the never ending deserted beaches or merge with the ocean while snorkeling, diving, kayaking or dolphin watching. Drake bay is the land of adventures waiting to be discovered.
