Travel story
Waiting for the night becomes the heart of the journey
Believing in that instant when the sky begins to move
In a northern town, going to meet the lights
—
the great northern sky awaits.
This is a journey to one of the very best places on Earth to witness the aurora borealis.
Yellowknife, on the shore of Great Slave Lake in Canada's Northwest Territories, sits directly beneath the auroral oval — with clear, dark winter skies that make March one of the most reliable months of the year to see the lights dance overhead.
Your five nights in the North are built around the aurora, with a different way to experience the wilderness each day — viewing by heated bus, a thrill of Alaskan dog sledding, a cosy heated aurora station deep in the dark, snowmobiling across the snow, and an intimate cabin aurora evening. Then a complete change of scene: two relaxed nights in Vancouver, the mild Pacific city of mountains and sea, with the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge among the treetops.
Signature points
Five days of repeated encounters with the aurora
You'll stay five nights in Yellowknife, located directly beneath the auroral oval, ensuring multiple opportunities to view the lights. By looking up at the night sky from different settings—heated buses, aurora stations, and cabins—you can enjoy the varying expressions and atmospheres each night brings.
Winter experiences unique to the North
We offer northern-specific activities such as Alaskan husky dog sledding and snowmobiling. This journey is not just about waiting for the aurora; it also lets you experience the charms of a land that lives with the snow.
Enjoy both northern wilderness and the West Coast city
In the latter half of the trip you'll head to Vancouver, surrounded by mountains and sea. In contrast to the northern wilderness where you chased the aurora, you can relax while enjoying the Capilano Suspension Bridge and strolling through the city. This itinerary lets you experience different attractions of Canada in a single trip.
