Travel story
The stone town does not let go of its memories
The names of heroes remain in the alleys and castles
The past remains as the outline of the town
—
Starting from the capital Tirana, this journey carefully traces the layers of history that Albania has walked through while visiting stone towns, fortified cities, and ancient ruins. The story of the hero Skanderbeg and the forms of cities that link ancient Greek and Roman times to the Ottoman period still remain clearly in the streets and ruins. Rather than relying on dramatic landscapes, the itinerary quietly savors the depth of this country by interpreting the time and stories accumulated at each place.
Signature points
Layered history carved into stone cities
In stone towns and fortified cities nestled in the mountains, the buildings themselves have continued to be used across eras. Differences in decoration and structure reveal traces of ancient, medieval, and Ottoman periods, and walking the streets becomes an act of tracing history itself.
Places where the hero's story still breathes
At castles and museums associated with Skanderbeg, the symbol of Albanian independence, personal history emerges not as abstract knowledge but as a tangible feeling tied to the land. You can sense how the hero's name is embedded in the city's structure and in people's memories.
Cities and ruins continuing from ancient civilizations
By visiting ruins and city remains built during the ancient Greek and Roman periods, you can concretely see how this region has been deeply connected to the Mediterranean world. The stonework structures and urban layouts preserve ideas and techniques passed down to later eras, allowing you to feel the process by which civilizations accumulated without interruption.
