Travel story
A fire older than bones
lights the rift of night
silence existed before prayer

On this journey you will travel through northern and eastern Ethiopia, encountering a diversity of history, religion, and natural environments.
Starting from the capital Addis Ababa, the route goes through the walled Islamic city of Harar, the Christian architectural sites of Gondar and Lalibela, and ultimately reaches the Danakil Depression, including the Dallol salt lake and the Erta Ale volcano.

Although the distances covered are long, the itinerary is designed to cross multiple cultural regions and geographic zones that make up Ethiopia, so you experience the country not merely as a tourist destination but as a landscape where daily life and faith are intertwined.
Signature points
Visit regions with different cultural spheres and religions in one trip
The itinerary crosses multiple regions with different religious backgrounds and lifestyles—Harar as an Islamic cultural center, Lalibela as a Christian holy site, and Gondar with remnants of its imperial era. By comparing them you can grasp the multilayered contours of culture.
Experience extreme natural environments like volcanoes, salt lakes, and rift zones
In the Danakil Depression you will walk through geologically unique environments on a planetary scale: the sulfur fields of Dallol, salt plains, and the lava of Erta Ale. The journey includes camping in harsh conditions.
An introduction that combines historic architecture, archaeological sites, and museum exhibits
In Addis Ababa you will visit the National Museum to see hominid fossils (Lucy) from millions of years ago. By encountering traces of the past in the first half of the trip, the itinerary deepens your understanding of subsequent religious architecture and living cultures.

  • Addis Ababa City Tour Visit to the National Archaeological Museum:
One of the most important museums in sub-Saharan Africa, housing the bones of "Lucy", an ancestor of humanity from 3.5 million years ago. It contains many ancient exhibits that testify to Ethiopia's significance as the "cradle of humanity". The historical exhibition rooms display ornaments, crowns, weapons used during wars, and photos of heroes and kings.

    Visit to St. George Cathedral:
A cathedral built in the traditional octagonal shape located at the northern end of Churchill Road. It was built to commemorate the victory over Italy at the Battle of Adwa in 1896. Inside the cathedral are works by Ethiopia's famous artist Afewerk Tekle and the designs of the stained glass windows of the Africa Hall. There is also a small museum on the premises. [English Guide]
