Travel story
The moment you step onto Costa Rican soil, you are greeted by birdsong and the rustle of leaves mingled with the humid air. Starting from San José, in the Sarapiquí forest you search for the breath of sloths, the colors of toucans, and the secretive presence of the pure white bat. Roasting cacao and tasting handmade chocolate blends with the scent of the forest. A boat gliding along the Río Cañón Negro reflects caimans, basilisk lizards, and countless waterbirds, while in Arenal the volcano stands quietly at dawn. Crossing lakes and entering the misty Monteverde, your heart trembles at the phantom of the quetzal as hummingbirds cut through the light. At the end of the journey, sipping wine made from rare fruits in the highlands of Los Santos lets the story of this country—where nature and people breathe together—soak into your soul.

Depart the airport and transfer to a hotel in San Jose (about 45 minutes to 1 hour). Check in at the hotel upon arrival.

You can expect to see a variety of wild birds such as the resplendent quetzal—called one of the most beautiful birds in the world—hummingbirds, manakins, flycatchers and warblers; mammals such as coatis and agoutis; as well as snakes and insects.
