Visiting the valleys of Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha, you will visit monasteries, dzongs (fortress temples), and mountain passes with spectacular views, deeply feeling Bhutan’s spiritual culture and the majestic Himalayan nature.
In Thimphu, visit the Memorial Chorten, the spiritual center of the nation, and the giant Buddha Dordenma statue, touching the culture of prayer rooted in people’s daily lives. At Dochula Pass, at an altitude of 3,100 m, enjoy the grand panorama woven by Himalayan snow peaks and 108 chortens. National Memorial Chorten: It was built in the memory of Third DrukGyalpo and is dedicated to World Peace. This large chorten is one of the most visible landmarks in Thimphu, and for many Bhutanese it is the focus of daily worship. The Tibetan-style stupa was built in 1974 as a memorial to the third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The whitewashed chorten, with its sun-catching golden finial, has richly painted annexes facing the cardinal directions, and features elaborate mandalas, statues and a shrine dedicated to the popular king.
