    Tanneries
    One of the most unique sights in the old medina is the tanneries, with the famous Chouara Tannery being particularly notable. Climb onto the rooftops of nearby leather shops to look down at the stone dyeing vats that date back to the 11th century and watch artisans still using centuries-old techniques.
    Al-Attarine Madrasa
    Built in the 14th century, this structure is a beautiful example of Moroccan architecture and craftsmanship, featuring intricate zellij (tilework).
    Al-Qarawiyyin University

    We will cross the Tizi n'Talremt pass and proceed to the Dades Valley with its hidden oases and scattered palm trees. Along the way you will see many ksour (fortified dwellings). These buildings were constructed to protect valuable goods such as gold, salt, and spices.

    Tanneries
    One of the most unique sights in the old medina is the tanneries, with the famous Chouara Tannery being particularly notable. Climb onto the rooftops of nearby leather shops to look down at the stone dyeing vats that date back to the 11th century and watch artisans still using centuries-old techniques.
    Al-Attarine Madrasa
    Built in the 14th century, this structure is a beautiful example of Moroccan architecture and craftsmanship, featuring intricate zellij (tilework).
    Al-Qarawiyyin University
    One of the oldest continuously operating universities in the world, adjacent to the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque (founded in 859). Non-Muslims cannot enter the mosque, but you can catch glimpses of its interior decorations from certain spots. [Japanese Guide]

    On the way, we cross the Tizi n'Test pass at an altitude of 2,178 meters (7,146 feet) and pass through cedar forests of the Middle Atlas Mountains. In this area you may spot local Barbary macaques (monkeys).

  • Private car transfer Continue to Merzouga.
    We will cross the Tizi n'Talremt pass and proceed to the Dades Valley with its hidden oases and scattered palm trees. Along the way you will see many ksour (fortified dwellings). These buildings were constructed to protect valuable goods such as gold, salt, and spices.

  • Erfoud This town is known for its date (date palm) festival and fossil mining. Here you can visit local communities, learn about the mining process, and interact with local artisans. [English Guide]

    Non-Muslims cannot enter this mosque, but its 12th-century foundations and the 77-meter-high minaret are worth seeing. The adjacent gardens feature fountains and ponds to enjoy.

    Souks (Markets)
    Visit Souk el-Attarine, Souk Chouari, and Souk Smata, where spices, woodcrafts, and traditional Moroccan slippers called "babouche" are on display. At the dyers' souk (Souk des Tanneurs), you can watch cloth and yarn being dyed using traditional methods.
