Two of South America’s iconic vistas――the sky city Machu Picchu and the mirror of the heavens, the Uyuni Salt Flat. This is a South America highlights itinerary that lets you experience both in a single trip.
The journey begins in Lima, the capital of Peru, where you stroll through historic streets overlooking the Pacific. You’ll then view the desert mystery of the Nazca Lines from the air on a sightseeing flight. The sight of enigmatic shapes—such as giant hummingbirds and monkeys—said to have been drawn more than 2,000 years ago is breathtaking.
In Cusco, the old capital of the Inca Empire, you’ll visit grand stone ruins like the Temple of the Sun (Qorikancha) and the Sacsayhuamán fortress, experiencing the history of Andean civilization. After exploring the Sacred Valley, you’ll take a scenic train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo).
