Travel story
Two of South America’s iconic vistas――the sky city Machu Picchu and the mirror of the heavens, the Uyuni Salt Flat. This is a South America highlights itinerary that lets you experience both in a single trip.
The journey begins in Lima, the capital of Peru, where you stroll through historic streets overlooking the Pacific. You’ll then view the desert mystery of the Nazca Lines from the air on a sightseeing flight. The sight of enigmatic shapes—such as giant hummingbirds and monkeys—said to have been drawn more than 2,000 years ago is breathtaking.
In Cusco, the old capital of the Inca Empire, you’ll visit grand stone ruins like the Temple of the Sun (Qorikancha) and the Sacsayhuamán fortress, experiencing the history of Andean civilization. After exploring the Sacred Valley, you’ll take a scenic train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). The next day, a Japanese-speaking guide will lead a leisurely tour of the World Heritage site Machu Picchu. The view of the sky city emerging from mountain mists is truly a once-in-a-lifetime emotional experience.
In the second half of the trip you’ll head to Bolivia. After passing through La Paz, surrounded by Andean peaks, you’ll travel to the world’s largest salt flat, the Uyuni Salt Flat. The otherworldly expanse where the silvery plain and the sky blend together is an unbelievable sight. This special tour lets you fully enjoy South America’s magnificent nature and the romance of ancient civilizations all at once.

Machu Picchu Visit
The first sight of Machu Picchu will amaze you: an extraordinary landscape of ancient architecture set within a magnificent natural environment. You will explore the ruins and structures with a guided tour.
Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca site located on a mountain ridge overlooking the Sacred Valley at 2,430 meters above sea level. Although it is the most famous of the Inca sites, it was introduced to the world by American historian Hiram Bingham in 1911. The Incas abandoned the city shortly before the Spanish colonization, and because it was not plundered, the ruins remain in very good condition. Perched on a dramatic ridge surrounded by steep cliffs and bordered on three sides by the Urubamba River, Machu Picchu is a remarkable place well worth visiting.
Machu Picchu was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and was chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.
