Ayutthaya Sightseeing
(Site of the Japanese Town)
This was a settlement of Japanese people in Ayutthaya during the 16th–17th centuries, where many Japanese lived. Merchants and mercenaries were involved in trade and conflicts, and figures like Yamada Nagamasa were active. Although the original buildings no longer remain, you can learn about the history of Japan–Thailand exchanges through commemorative halls, gardens, and exhibits.
(Museum Visit)
Museums displaying artifacts, Buddha images, and historical materials excavated from the ruins, as well as exhibition facilities that clearly present the overall history, are helpful for learning about Ayutthaya's historical background and cultural life.
(Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon)
Known as the "Great Temple of Victory." Built in the 14th century and later expanded with a large chedi (stupa) in the 16th century, it has become a landmark symbolizing Ayutthaya. The tower rises high and rows of seated Buddha statues surround it, creating a solemn atmosphere.
Includes an elephant ride experience en route (about 10 minutes)

Visit Wat Mahathat and Wat Phra Si Sanphet
(Wat Mahathat)
Once flourishing as the central religious complex of the royal capital, this temple's name means "Temple of the Great Relic." Originally it had tall prang towers and many buildings, but it became ruins due to wars and the passage of time. Today collapsed walls and foundations remain, and the Buddha head entwined in the roots of a Bodhi tree is especially famous, forming an iconic scene visited by many.
(Wat Phra Si Sanphet)
Built in 1448, it once housed large Buddha images and was the site of important royal ceremonies, but it was destroyed during 18th-century warfare. The three large chedis (stupas) lined up in the center of the site remain as symbolic scenery that speaks of its former glory.
