Travel story
I won't cut back on the plan, and I have no intention of trimming it.
Tallinn and the Arctic Circle — everything is full-on.
Because it's all packed into one trip, these northern days are impossible to forget.
—
This Finnish itinerary is heavy on both information and activity: enjoy walking and architecture in Helsinki, take a ferry to Tallinn, then make a single jump up to Rovaniemi in the Arctic Circle. We'll do basically everything possible in the Arctic: Santa Claus Village, husky sledding, reindeer sledding, smelt ice fishing, aurora watching, and sauna. It's physically demanding, but precisely because you cram it all into one trip, it becomes the kind of journey people talk about most afterward.
Signature points
A structure that deadpan-packs “everything you can do” in the Arctic Circle
Starting with a visit to Santa Claus Village and including husky sledding, reindeer sledding, aurora tours, and smelt ice fishing, this itinerary incorporates Lapland's standard activities without cutting any. Because it’s an all-in rather than a selection, the intensity of experiences is unusually high.
Tactile, unhurried moments tucked between flashy experiences
Drilling a hole in the ice to wait for fish, roasting sausages over a fire, and sipping a warm drink create natural pauses amid a schedule full of activities. These uneventful moments end up stabilizing the overall impression of the trip and are often what you remember most vividly.
Restore in saunas and prepare for the aurora in a glass igloo
After a day of travel and activities, recover properly in a Finnish-style sauna. In a glass igloo you can watch the changing sky from indoors and be ready for aurora appearances, spending the night comfortably without strain.
