The Greek-Roman theatre, with its panoramic view of Mount Etna, is the town's most famous monument. Built in the III century BC, it is the largest ancient theatre in Sicily after that of Syracuse. Even today, the city takes advantage of its acoustics and setting to organise concerts and unique shows.
Your tour of the city will follow the Corso, Taormina's main street, which crosses the city from the north, Porta Messina, to the south, Porta Catania, in a string of shops, bars, restaurants and piazze. The most famous is Piazza IX Aprile, with its sea views and chequered floor.
The narrow streets around it also hide secrets that your guide will help you to uncover.

Departing from Taormina or Giardini Naxos around 8:30 a.m., you’ll embark on a journey to explore the highest active volcano in Europe, Mount Etna.
The tour includes an easy hike on Mount Etna, which are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
You’ll also have the opportunity to descend into a lava cave, where your guide will explain the geology and history of this Italian volcano.
Lunch will be served in a mountain chalet surrounded by a lush pine forest. You'll have the choice between sandwich or pasta menù (not included 10/15€pp)
In the afternoon, the tour heads to the Alcantara River Park and the impressive Alcantara Canyon.
The Alcantara Gorges were formed when the lava from Mount Etna met the cold water of the Alcantara River, creating beautiful basalt columns.
