白亜の霊廟から王の城塞へ、北インド建築をめぐる

祈りの炎で一年を送り、ガンジス川の初日の出へ
大晦日は、聖地バラナシのガンジス河畔で行われるガンガー・アールティへ。炎を掲げる僧侶たちの儀式と祈りの声に包まれながら、一年最後の夜を過ごします。元日の早朝にはボートで川へ漕ぎ出し、沐浴や祈りを捧げる人々、ガートや寺院を眺めながら初日の出を迎えます。インドの深い信仰と日常が重なる場所で、新しい一年を始める特別な体験です。
寝台列車でつなぐ、王都と聖地の物語
ジャイプールからバラナシへ、さらにバラナシからデリーへと、二度の寝台列車で北インドを横断します。車窓の先に広がる風景とともに、華やかな王侯文化の街から祈りが息づく聖地へ移っていく時間も、この旅ならではの一部です。バラナシでは旧市街の路地や仏教の聖地サールナートを訪ね、旅の終盤にはリキシャでオールドデリーをめぐり、複数の宗教と長い歴史が織りなすインドの奥行きに触れます。

After breakfast excursion to Sarnath (Budhist ruins).
Sarnath is a sacred Buddhist site near Varanasi, traditionally believed to be where the Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. Its archaeological remains include the Dhamek Stupa, ancient monastery foundations, and remnants of an Ashokan pillar. The site remains an important place of pilgrimage and offers valuable insight into the origins and development of Buddhism.
